Technical Skills I developed in the AS year

Throughout the AS year, we were introduced to various new skills which were useful for enhancing the quality of our work and allowed us to increase our knowledge in terms of media.

Here is a list of things that I was taught:

  • How to use the camera - The first thing I learned was how to turn on a camera and how to correctly use it, which involved learning about the different features such as record button, light filter, where the external mic was applied, how to insert the memory card, what filter to use when there was too much light etc.
  • How to use the tripod - The next thing we learned was how to set up the tripod and how to make all three legs even as well as attaching the camera to the tripod carefully.
  • Filming techniques - When it comes to filming, the framing is very important. There shouldn't bee too much space above the subjects head and the person filming should take into consideration the rule of thirds. I also learned how and when to pan, tilt and zoom.
  • Final Cut Pro - When it came to editing my clips, I used this software. I was taught how to trim clips, slow clips down, sync sound into clips and
  • How to present work - When it came to presenting my work on blogger, I made use of different technologies such as prezi, GIF files, word clouds and various animations to make my work look better.
