Research for Music Video: Andrew Goodwin's Theory

Andrew Goodwin states that "traditional narrative analysis do not really apply to pop music video's because they approach narrative in a different angle to novels and films"

Music videos more often than tend not to include a demonstration of a typical genre characteristics such as girls dancing in front of boys in a music video would be seen as a R&B and arguably Pop videos whereas a stage performance with a group of males would instantly link to an Indie Rock type genre.

There are many songs in the industry that do not follow the narratives structure;

Disjuncture Video:

Ferreck Dawn & Redondo - Love Too Deep (Official Music Video)

- This song especially doesn't follow Andrew Goodwin's Theory as the music video has no initiative in having "Love Too Deep".  There is a male who walks around the street selling frozen lollies to strangers but strangely the females love it, the females in this music video are showing some skin which catches the male audience as well as the female audience for many purposes. The females are then dancing around with the males having a good time.

This song is linked into the House Genre - Many music videos for this genre is about people having a good time dancing around.

Illustration Video:

50 Cent - Candy Shop ft. Olivia

- Candy shop would probably be on the best examples in following Goodwin's Theory. This song is called Candy shop - This song presents lots of expensive cars, expensive chains/jewellery and lots of good looking females.

As you can see in this picture below, the R&B genre mainly have females spending time with males, just before this part of the video is shown 50 Cent says "I'm the love doctor" Then the next part of the video is him in a red/pink room with a female who is touching as if he is enjoying his female accompany.

Amplification Video:

Hoodie Allen - Act My Age (Official Music Video)

Throughout the video the lyrics link towards the Music Video as the video exaggerates a young teenage life, the lyrics state "Act My Age" this illustrates that the person doesn't want to grow up as the lyrics exaggerate the purpose of the video. The Music video presents many things such as parties, drugs and alcoholic beverages. The purpose of this is used to exaggerate and amplify onto his lyrics.
