Research for Music Video - Laura Mulvey’s idea of representation

Laura Mulvey’s quote:

“In a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasure in looking has been split between active/male and passive/female. The determining male gaze projects its fantasy onto female figure which is styled accordingly.”

In my own words, this is basically saying,

In a world where men have power and women do not, men do the looking and women are looked at.”

Whatever image the man has of the woman, this is then projected onto the woman which is usually sexual and provocative. These usually fall under the genres of Hip Hop / RAP / RNB / Grime

From the music video 'Superbass' by Nicki Minaj, there are several examples which favour Mulvey's theory.
This is a close up of Nicki's chest area as
she pours a drink over her very revealing costume.
In the video it is edited in slow motion to
pleasure the males view.

This shot shows that she is the centre
of attention. The camera is positioned
so that we see her in the male's
point of view.

In the music video 'Holiday' by Dizzee Rascal, there are also examples of shots where Mulvey's theory can be applied.

In this shot, the male opening the door
looks straight at her body without
even greeting the lady entering the pool party.
This shows that a males pleasure is in the
womans body and it has been emphasised
in this shot.
The camera has edited in a slow motion
shot as the lady is walking up to the pool party.
Her face is cut out of the shot to encourage the
audience see her body from a male's point of view.
