Planning - Reflection on my progress so far


To be honest, I have been finding it difficult to keep up with blogging as my laptop is broken, therefore I haven't been using as much variety of technology as I should to make my blogging look interesting and good. To improve this I will start attending workshop to make sure I am keeping up to date with all my blogging and do as much as I can through lesson times whilst we take it in turns editing our music video. However, even though I have been struggling abit with this I think that the depth of each of my blogging is good because they are very detailed and too the point!

Need to improve:
  1. keeping upto date with blogging
  2. use different softwares to present my work
  3. Always ask for help if I feel like im falling behind on work
Targets:
  1. Get my Laptop fixed ASAP
  2. Take myself to workshop to complete undone/draft work

Planning - How I keep myself organised


I note down in my diary the homework that is due, usually do it the day its given so all the information in my head is still fresh, however sometimes I do not do this instead I will go on the blog and write out the titles of each blog post that needs to be done and leave it as a draft, this way a am able to ensure that all my blog posts are done before deadlines due and also on what I need to catch up on so I dont fall behind.

I also like to use the blogging checklist as this is my most reliable source to help me remember what posts I have done and what I need to do. It also allows me to check that I am using different uses of technology to present my work so It does not looking boring for the examiner to look at!

Planning - Overview of Audience Task


I visisted various social media websites such as Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp a Couple of Friends /Fans to ask about Tinie Tempah and how they go about on their everyday lifestyle. Just to understand what a typical average type of audience would listen to this particular genre of music. This helped me create an intial understanding of the profile type that our average audience would be.

Its essenstial to have a digipak/cd and advertisment to promote a artist songs. This visually is appealing for the audience to recongise who this album belongs too. I am going to anaylse the original artist's version and see how he created a visual link to between the music video, DigiPak and advertisement.

The album cover 'DEMONSTRATION' also follows the black, white and red scheme.The red rectangler shape across the artists eyes reflects the rims of the artists shades in the music video and stripe across his costume jacket.

The advertisment also follows the colour scheme, with red and white writing. Also has the artist black and white fading into the background which is really eye catching for an audience point of view.

Planning - Initial ideas for Digipak

This is my Digi pack/CD cover. The reason why I chose this because it follows my synergy with the black white and gold colour scheme, it also has good lighting which emphasises the success of the artist 'ISHY'. I took this photo near Chinatown. I decided to take this photo on this wall because their was a little light bulb over his head and it instantly allowed me to visualise as the light bulb being his success because the light is reflecting down onto 'ISHY'.



I also edited the photo on an iPhone app called VSCOcam which allowed me to add filters and add more colour correction on the items that I want to be emphasised and shown which is the black white and gold colour scheme.





What gave me an initial idea of choosing this as my Digi pak would be;



This gave me an Initial idea of what I was aiming for in my Digi pak, I didn't really want to copy Tyga's album cover so I made Ishy do a different style of pose. The comparison between both Digi paks is that you are able to visualise the black white and gold colour scheme very effectively.


Planning - Incorporate Synergy


The Digi pak - My Digi pak will follow the black, white and gold colour scheme as seen on the image. I chose this as my digi pak because it is a very strong and effective image as my chosen colours are shown strongly within this image.
















The Advertisement - This is my advertisement for the music video because it also follows the colour scheme of Black white and gold but it features a great view of the London Eye and Big Ben in the far distance. I believe having this as my advertisement would be very effective as it emphasises the London life of the artist.














In the music video you will be able to witness the colour scheme of Black white and gold throughout of ISHY'S performance.

This is Tinie Tempah's CD cover. This cover for a CD is very effective because it shows the artist himself in a dark lit room with a great bright red smudge. The bright red smudge allows the fans of Tinie Tempah to know that it is his album cover. The smudge creates attention and it also creates unique because not many CD covers have a red smudge on the artists eyes for their CD cover. I believe having this as a CD cover is very effective because it attracts attention towards the fans and other people that are browsing in the CD section in stores.






On the back of his CD cover you are able to see Tinie Tempah once again featuring his songs in red writing. You are able to see that Tinie Tempah's colour scheme is Black, grey and red with a hint of white. These colours are very effective because they stand out very well which attracts the people and it also implicates his album name 'Demonstration'.

Our music video will be different to the original video because we will not do the following;


  • Will not create a background story as we don't have enough people to create a story for the music video.
  • We will also not use flares which are seen in the video.
  • Will not film on high buildings because it is rare to find good locations where we can actually get up and film because many people won't let us film.
  • Will not be filming a wide range of locations which are seen in the original video such as Tokyo and many more
  • We will also not be using any subtitles which are seen at the beginning of the music video.

Decisions of Pitch - Final Annotations of Lyrics (with locations) - Nadia and Ismail

Here is a screenshot and update of our final annotation of the lyrics with the locations we will be using in our music video. I have colour co-ordinated them with highlighters to make it easier for me to see which shots are in the same place so when we look at it during production and filming, we will be able to see what shots are where. (Even though the whole song will be sung) It gives us a clearer vision and acts like a storyboard.



Decisions of Pitch - Locations and Base Shots

After researching extra music video's we have decided that we will only use ONE main base shot for Ishy's main verses. We think it is a better idea and it will look more effective. The only changes we have made to the blogpost - 'Revisions of Pitch - Looking at New Locations' is that we will not be using the 2nd Main base shot Tower Bridge. Other than that, the locations we have chosen have been finalised and we look forward to the filming process. 


Planning- Extra Research on Rap Music Videos

Because we were still unsure of our second base shot for Ishy's fast rapping sections, I did some extra research on rap music videos as I thought it would help me more on choosing another base shot.

I first looked over Kid Ink's music video 'Sunset'.


I chose this song because it has the sun as a focus of the song which is similar to the concept of our music video. 
From this music video, he only has one main base shot but it is filmed in so many different angles which make it look effective and give the music video a nice structure. Also he uses many locations and he fills it in when the beat is fast to emphasise the beautiful city. This has given me ideas which I will discuss with my group as I think having one base shot it better than two and it will also make our music video different to the original music video by Tinie Tempah as he uses TWO main base shots. 

The second song I chose was Tinchy Stryder's music video 'Spaceship'

I chose this song because the lyrics talk about how the artist has made it when he says 'momma thought I wouldn't make it, but now I'm living in a spaceship'. This suggests that he proved everyone wrong and it follows the same lines as the lyrics to our music video. This video also has one base shot and it looks effective in different angles. Also they have filmed near the river which is what we are hoping to do as one of our main base shots.






Looking over more rap videos has helped me think about our music video's structure more and I think that it is a good idea to use the idea of having one main base shot for rapping scenes as it looks nice. 
I will speak to my group about it and we will decide whether or not to go forward with this idea.

Here is a screenshot of how we annotated our lyrics. This draft helped us with ideas as we could see what the lyrics were saying and we had a visual idea of where our past scenes will fit in.




Planning: Audience research On Ideas For Music Video

From our pitch feedback, one of the points that were highlighted was that our audience was not specific enough. In our pitch, we had initially said that out target audience were teenagers from age 15- 25. We were then corrected by one of the members of our audience that people who mainly listen to rap music are males who are in that age range. 

I went and did some research from male teenagers who listen to rap music and some fans of Tinie Tempah asking them what they would expect to see in our music video. 

Majority of the people I asked said that we should use elements of the past in our music video to give it a storyline. They said that our idea of just showing our artist rapping in different locations was boring and was lacking creativity. It would be better if we showed some sort of journey from his past to now.

I will feedback this audience research to my group so that we can make some final decisions.

HOW WE WILL TACKLE IMPROVEMENTS:

Before we look at locations, it is important to first get audience research on how they think the structure of our music video should be. That would be the first thing to think about. Once we have gained a variety of audience research, we will then be able to think about which locations to used based on their feedback. Finally, we will create a new production schedule and risk assessment.

00.00 - 00.08 - we liked the idea at the beginning of the locations moving past at a quick pace to set the scene of the music video. we decided that we would like to incoprate that into our music video as it looks effective and instresting.

00.00 - 00.07 - at the very beginning I really liked the flickers that was used in editing. So i suggested to my group we also do the same to show how our artist when from nothing to something in those flickers, rather than copying everyone else who are using a black and white filter to show past and present. We are going for something rather clever to show the contrast

0.22 - the footsteps of the artist we also liked, so we will do something similar of our artist clmibing a staircase for his last rap verse.

Planning - Analysis of the Original Song

Our Original Song is called:

'TINIE TEMPAH ft JOHN MARTIN -CHILDREN OF THE SUN' 


 
 
 

    In the original video the artist takes the audience on a journey through internation places and the introduction presents the beautiful views of the cities. The emphasis of the sun is portrayed by the different  races that are shown in the video, this suggests a deeper meaning to the lyrics that we are all the same living under one sun. It also represents success and how if you have the determination and motivation then you'll succed just like he did. The sun is the light and potential to be the best of the best. This music video also shows different people looking for the sun, climbing the success ladder.

How our music video will differ will be that instead of featuring lots of other people we will only focus on the artist and featuring artist. We have chosen beautiful scenery locations as we want to show our artist has already made it to being successful rather than him looking for it. In terms of location we chose to stay in London only as this is where are artist will be making himself big in his hometown.

Inspirational Digipak/CD ideas for Ishy



Reasons why I think that Kid Ink's 'My Own Lane' is perfect to get ideas from for Ishy's 'Victory':

Kid Ink's 'My Own Lane' is his debut album released on January 7th 2014 after being signed to a major label, Sony RCA Records.
'Victory' will be Ishy's first album on Virgin EMI records which is also a major label.

On the front over of the album is the artists face which is important as this was Kid Ink's first album/major release with a major label so he is most likely to gain new fans as there will be a lot of promotion. This being the case, there is a close up shot of the artists face which is very useful in terms of increasing awareness as not everyone has heard of him before.






On the back of the disk the artist is also featured which reinforces the idea of increasing awareness. The colour scheme is black and white which is the same as the cover and has the same exact font for song listings as the album title.







For the album tour poster the same black and white colour scheme is used which is impactful on the audience as it reminds them of the album. the artist is also featured on this promotional poster.

How will I incorporate my key element in three productions?



My key visual element is the black, white and gold colour scheme and I will incorporate it through the use of jewellery and text. 

The artist 'Ishy' will wear gold chains in the music video which will also feature on the album cover and on the poster. 

I will try to maintain one font style for the posters, adverts, digipak and opening credits of the music video. As well as this, I will ensure to have white and gold text.

The purpose of maintaining a specific colour scheme and font is to make everything related with the album similar so that Ishy's debut release has formality which is simple to identify.

Planning: Analysis of Digipak/CD



Digipak/CD cover:



Tinie Tempah's album 'Demonstration' sticks to his synergy of black, dark grey, white and red colour scheme within his digipak/CD cover. The effectiveness of this is that due to the simplicity it's easy for fans to recognise. The red looks as if it is a smudge, paint brushed over a desaturated photograph. 




The back of the CD contains a black and white image of the artist as the background and the song list in red futuristic font. The red links back to the synergy for this album which is the colour scheme. 


Single cover:



The cover for the single 'Children of The Sun' follows similar conventions to the album such as the red, dark grey, black and white colour scheme. It also has no font which allows us to focus on the design. The similarity, in terms of design, to the album cover makes it obvious that the single is from this album. The difference is that the artist is making a praying gesture whereas in the album cover the red just covers his eyes. There is also a beam of sunlight behind the right side of his head which links to the word 'Sun' in the title of the song 'Children of The Sun'.

Planning: Analysis of original video

TINIE TEMPAH - CHILDREN OF THE SUN FT. JOHN MARTIN





 The original video has a storyline in japanese with subtitles for the opening 50 seconds of the video. Our video will get straight into the song so the audience can focus on the performance as well as the artist's delivery.

In addition to this, there is cutaways and separate shots for individuals or groups that appear
more than once. These shots consist of close ups, mid shots, long shots as well as various tracking shots.

Our main focus will be on the artist as he is a new artist and he should be the centre of most of the shots as the new audience he is attracting will need to be familiar with his face.


In the original video they use special effects and CGI to enhance the storyline of the moon covering the sun. As our main focal point is the artist and his transition in life from being unknown to having a record deal and rapid growing fan base.

Research for Music Video: Anaylsing Costume, Setting, Location, Props

Below I will analyse A Music Video:

1. Bobby Shmurda ft. Dion - About a Week ago
 
Costume: Loose baggy clothing worn by the rap/grime artists, army style fashion, with props and jewellery. Other participants in the music video such as the women are in revealing clothing protraying a certain type of confident female. The other males are in black/white clothing like supply and demand, or plain outfits with snapback caps/. Not much thought given about the costumes, just simplity as the song itself is the main focus. However, this type of clothing reflects their lifestyle and lively hood, about girls in sexy revealing clothing being approached by a group of boys partying and just having a good time; living by the YOLO life.
 
Setting/Locations: At the beginning it sets the tone of the rest of the music video. It starts off in a Club; the darkness fused with neon flashing lights drinks up in the air and people dancing away into the night. It swiftly cuts into the hook of the song outside an estate where the artist sings with his groupie behind him. It cuts back and forth between these two shots frequently.
 
Props: the artist uses a bat as a prop, this suggests his status within the group like the big boss that nobody can mess with, he is the authority, this represents empowerment and strength. There is no other main prop, however the music video features a particular dance called the 'Shmoney Dance' on the lyrics when it says "about a week ago" this is done by lots of people in the music video which is what made the song very popular to the urban young youth crowd.

Planning - Pitch Feedback

Planning - How I Keep Myself Organised

It is important to keep organised in media studies because overall it is alot of work to do not only during lessons but also outside of lessons.

Here are some ways in how I keep myself organised.

1. Posting in advance


 Here I have shown that I have posted the blogs in order and stated in brackets which ones are not finished so that I know I can come back to them and still have them in the correct order. Whereas if I had it as a draft, It will go after the blogs I have may have done in-between and I prefer my planning to flow in a nice order. 















2. Labelling in advance


 In this picture, I have shown the pitch blog posts and how i have labelled them with (name) in brackets so that we can go back and put the person's name responsible for the pitch post. This will help remind them later of which sections they have to research as part of their input to the big pitch which we will be doing together. 

Here I have filled in the names of the person responsible for each pitch post 

3. Emailing my teacher every so often to ask questions. 

I like emailing my teacher every so often because this way I can speak and ask questions when I am not in school and studying outside of college. I find this very useful as I usually get a quick reply from my teacher and her advice always helps. I also update myself on when the deadlines are so that i know how to organise my time and work before then. 

4. Blogging Checklist

I like following my blogging checklist because it helps me stick to my deadlines and also keep on track what I have to do for each blog. This is very useful and I always tick it off once I have completed a blog.

I went on Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp to ask some fans of Tinie Tempah what they do in their daily life to get an idea of the average type of audience that would listen to our song. 


I did some research before I made a profile for our average audience.

Planning - Analysis of 3 Music Videos

Planning - Analysis of Digipak/CD and Advertisement for Final Song Choice

As part of our project, it is necessary to create a DigiPak for our artist and an Advertisement. Before I create mine, I will analyse the original artist's version and see how he created a visual link to between the music video, DigiPak and Advertisement. 

Music Video:


In the music video, his costume is black, white and red. He also wears sunglasses and the rim around the lens is red. 













DigiPak:



The album cover also follows the colour scheme of black, white and red, making red the colour that pops in the music video. The red smudge over his eyes reflects the rim of his glasses in the music video and the stripe across his jacket in his costume. 













Advertisement:


The album poster again follows the colour scheme of black white and red. The writing is white and red and the background of the artist faded is black. 








It is key to use a clear element that visually shows the synergy between the DigiPak, Advertisement and Music Video. I believe that it helps promote the artist better and also makes it look professional. Also, from the digipak and advertisement, I think that it is necessary to put the artist on the front cover so that the audience know who the songs belong to and it promotes the artist well. The key visual element here is the colour scheme and it is done very well so that the audience can tell that the song belongs to this particular album 'Demonstration'. 
















Planning - Analysis of Original Music Video

Below is the original music video for our song choice , Tinie Tempah - Children of the Sun.  I will be stating what the concept of the music is and how our music video will differ from it.




In this music video the artist is going international and the introduction shows the beautiful views of the different cities he is in. He also shows different races in his music video to emphasise that we are all one under the sun and we all have that potential to see the light (success). Our music video concept will differ because we are focusing mainly on the artist and we are not including anyone else other than Lukas who is featuring in his song. We wanted the concept of our song to just show him in success by putting him in beautiful locations where it looks as though he is successful.
The music video shows the different people looking for the sun and climbing towards it whereas in our music video we want our artist to have already found success. We will also show our artist more in the music video as again, we are only focusing on him and not others. We did have a suggestion that we use others in our music video because it is 'children' of the sun but we did not want to copy the artist.

Also, in terms of location, our artist will be based around London only because that is where he made his success and our interpretations of the song are that he is reflecting on how he made it to his luxury life from his old days. In the original music video he is in it as much as the other performers who are also in the music video. In our music video it will only be our artist shown through a range of beautiful locations emphasising his success.

We created a TWITTER AND INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT! Now we can keep everyone updated on how we are doing when we start our production and promote our artist! 




We will tweet @candi_media_6 so that other groups who are also filming can see what we are up to and we can see how far they are into their filming. 



Our instagram page allows us to post photos of our artist to promote his album. He could start to build a fan base here as young teenagers who are his main target audience use instagram.
