In comparison to AS, I have had to carefully select costumes for the performer as well as suitable locations that match the performers costume to be able to stick to the narrative. Furthermore, there is more of a focus on elements of synergy, something that is included in this production which will be included in the ancillary pack. In terms of locations, as a group, we had to dissect the lyrics and brainstorm where we could film as well as what we want the artist to portray when he says a certain lyric. For example, when there are lines about the artist's struggling past, we decided to film in run down areas with unglamorous clothing to illustrate this.
For AS media a location was picked based on the genre of the movie opening. For instance, last year I did a teen drama which narrowed down choices of locations where teens would socialise.
In addition to this, there were many elements taken from teen movies for AS, however for A2 we have to make an original music video for a brand new artist which means our ideas have to be original but still follow conventions of music videos.
Planning for this production allowed me to develop more skills surrounding research and what an audience expects from their favourite artist. I have also developed using costume more effectively and ensured every piece of the costume is being used for a purpose. For example, the dark shades are a common prop for hip hop videos and a popular accessory for artists of the hip hop genre. As our artist is from this genre we decided to make use of this particular prop.
