Production - Skills Development

Planning the production was a lot different to our AS production work as it required a lot more thought to the camera work, mise en scene and editing. There would also need to be relevance as to why we were filming in certain locations and also the reason why the costumes chosen would fit the genre. For example, why did we choose to use sunglasses for our 'rap' genre? Because it is common for rap artists that are also combined in the hip hop genre to wear blacked out shades in their music videos.

Last year my group and I used a lot of research to help us with ideas for our film opening. We used a lot of ideas from different film openings from existing movies and combining them together to create our own film opening which had similar aspects to different films.

This year, we had to look at the lyrics of our chosen song and annotate every single line and decide what locations would be relevant and what kind of camera angles we would use to make that shot effective. Planning is very different because we are using our own imagination more but also remembering to keep our ideas within the rap genre. It is a lot harder this year but it helps me to understand what aspects fit into different genres and how to make it look effective using camera angles.
