Overall Experience In A2 Media

MY OVERALL EXPERIENCE IN A2 MEDIA...

                           Hardwork
                                  Exciting
                                        Challenging
                                                   Tiring
                                                        Interesting

I have had a good overall experience in A2 Media, although it has been challenging it has been interesting and fun. Working within my group had its own difficulties but we overcame them and produced amazing work together. We all supported each other in making sure we was up to date with blogging.
It was a enjoyable process but I am glad the coursework is finished!

Evaluation Question 4

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

Rough Cut Feedback

Above is a link to the rough cut feedback we got when we presented it to the class. I think we have listened to what they had to say and we changed a lot of things around. I think editing in Final Cut Pro helped our video look more visually exciting to the audience because we used a lot of different effects to change the music video around; e.g.. quick cutting, earthquake, bleeding the colour out using filters...etc. Because RAP music is most of the time, fast paced, I think these really helped our music video look more appealing. We also edited things more to the beat and made every cut different each time.

Below is a short documentary style video of the feedback on my music video and ancillary texts. I asked a few students within my target audience range, what they thought of my media products.

Production of Ancillary Work - Making Changes Based on Feedback

The feedback on my DigiPak so far was that I needed to change the sunset so that the london eye was not in the centre as it looked weird and not so much like a reflection. From this, I moved it more to the side and made it bigger so that it appeared more realistic. Below I have shown a BEFORE and AFTER picture of the changes I made.

AFTER

Also, the feedback from my advertisement suggested that I needed to change the wording and font of the ratings on my advertisement.  I mentioned 'new songs' in the quotes which made it seem that I was promoting an established artist when I was suppose to be promoting a debut artist.

Here is the changes I made for my advertisement :

Production of Ancillary Work - Feedback on DigiPak So Far

Whilst designing my digipak front panels, I asked for some feedback from my sister who is 15 years old, on how it was looking so far. I think her advice was very useful as it came from my target audience point of view which helped me open my eyes and understand what is more appealing to to my real audience.

I also got feedback on my advertisement from Rebecca about my Advertisement. She said overall my work is good but I just need to re word my quotes on the advertisement as it sounded like I was promoting an already established artist. She also suggested I change the font because it stood out more than the other fonts on my digipak.

Below is a screenshot of the feedback she gave on my ancillary work so far.

Evaluation Question 4

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

In the below link is some feedback from our rough-cut, when editing in final cut pro it was easier to make improvements as a main comment we got was to make it visually exciting in which we used jump-cut to make it look better. We also added other different effects such as bleeding out the colour in the 'pass scenes', having an earthquake and quick cutting having the camera moving at all times. Because in most rap videos their are always fast paced and upbeat.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media products develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Evaluation Question 2

What is Synergy and why is it important?

"the interaction or cooperation of two or more organisations  substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects"
"the synergy between artist and record company"

In my synergy i used a colour scheme of Black White & Gold, throughout the music video you will see ISHY the artist wearing the synergy colour scheme. For the black in my synergy, the artist will wear a black jacket, black jeans and black sunglasses. For the white in my synergy the artist will wear a plain white top and finally for the gold in my synergy the artist will wear 2 gold chains.

Synergy is important because it allows the synergy to reflect on the artist's success such as the colour gold in the synergy. Throughout a large majority of Tine Tempah's music video he wears black and white with a small feature of gold, we decided to follow this idea of using black white and gold because it shows the success that the artist's has because the bling presents expenses. Also the black white and gold synergy reflects on the genre of the artist's music which will follow in the category of Hip Hop, In a large majority of hip hop songs, they like to present their bling and expenses so we believed following the idea of showing ISHY'S success would be a great idea.

In this screenshot, your able to see the gold synergy, it stands out really well when ISHY is performing because the black and white outfit allows the gold to stand out which makes my synergy really effective.

I gathered some ideas from Tyga's album with the his synergy of black and gold, i wanted to make it look a little different so i allowed my synergy to follow a black gold and white colour scheme. This album cover is very effective because it really brings out the success of Tyga and that is what i was aiming to do for my album cover.

This is my final outcome for my DigiPak, I have followed my planned synergy colours
(Black, White & Gold). I believe following my synergy made my DigiPak very effective because the text stands out really well for the audience to see, also the images which I have chosen suit the genre of Hip Hop.  With the research I have discovered of my chosen artist (Tinie Tempah).

As you can see I gathered the same idea of how the artist is standing/posing in front of the camera.

The synergy in my music video will be following the colour scheme of Black white and gold, i chose these colours because it reflects onto his outfit and the gold in the outfit shows the success and bling.

The research that I have discovered about Tine Tempah, in a large majority of his video he wears black and white and occasionaly a feature of gold so we decided as a group to follow that colour scheme as those colours really show his success and that is what were trying to achieve in our music video.

The colour scheme I will follow for my synergy will be - Black, white and gold.

Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement) ?

  • Synergy is the visual link of two or more things to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.
  • I planned to use a black, white and gold colour scheme for my synergy as well as sunglasses which are a common convention of the rap/hiphop genre. In order to show the black, white and gold colour scheme in the music video I have the artist wearing a black bomber jacket, black jeans and black sunglasses. For gold he wears two gold chains which can clearly be seen through close ups. For white, he wears a white T shirt and white trainers.

Here is a ThingLink outlining the visual links between the video and the digipak/advertisement.

I feel that my ancillary work successfully shows visual links with my music video as shown in the ThingLink above. The target audience can clearly recognise the use of sunglasses as well as dark jacket.

Existing product that utilises synergy:

Trey Songz - Trigga

The trailer has a black and white filter which links to the black and white colour scheme of the digipak and advertisement. He wears a black blazer and a bow tie in the trailer which is part of his synergy. The black blazer and black bow tie is also used at the front of the digipak and advertisement.

Evaluation Question 4

Rough Cut Feedback

The feedback received for the rough cut was vital as it enabled me to improve the quality of my music video so that it follows the conventions of music videos and is visually pleasing, especially to my target audience. In this video I clearly demonstrate how I have taken the audience feedback into consideration and have made the necessary changes.

From the feedback I have received, it is evident that elements of synergy are clear and my ancillary links with my music video.

Production of Ancillary work: Improvement's made on suggestions

I have decided to make the background of my inside panels match the outside panels to maintain the continuity. I cut around the image of the artist in the squatting position and placed him on a new background that is similar to the background on the outside panels of the digipak.

Production of Ancillary Products - Getting Started

Before I started using Photoshop, I decided I would look at a quick youtube tutorial which would show me the basic tools and skills on PhotoShop. I have not used PhotoShop before so I think having a look at tutorials was necessary for me.

Blogging Progress Feedback and Personal Targets

From the blogging health check, It shows that I have stayed on the same mark of 19/20. I think that it is a good mark but there are things I can improve on.

The feedback from Rebecca was:

113 at blogging health check 3 - final check.  A brilliant blog - well done Nadia.  It's looking fantastic.  As we move into the final two weeks of the unit please make sure that you don't have any blank posts (you do at the moment have a blank 'photos' post - please bring in the photos that were in your short list) and make sure that you account for the photoshop production nicely - perhaps a gif file of the construction process.  It would also be useful for you to get some audience feedback on your ancillary work as you produce it as this will help you with your evaluation.  But great work so far - keep going!

Rebecca found a blank blogpost where I wanted to show my short list of pictures which I have now uploaded.

Also, my personal targets are to:
- Get more feedback on my ancillary work and blog about it
- Make sure that I meet my deadlines
- Make sure that I do not have empty blogposts
- Keep my blogging consistent

Ancillary: Feedback On My Digipak

Once I was pleased with the Digipak I created, I screen grabbed it and showed it to the rest of my group as well as friends.

This helped me ensure that my digipak will get a good grade because I would get helpful suggestions I could make on my digipak to make it even better and we'll as find out what my strengths are on the ancillary products I have created.

A former A2 student from last year media was a perfect example to test my ancillary product on as this is the type of potential person who would buy this genre of music, he gave me really positive feedback.

This is another piece of feedback that I got:

Planning for Ancillary Work - Further (and hopefully final) Changes I am making to Digipak

Powered by emaze

Ancillary: Pitch Presentation

Ancillary: Process of the front and back album cover (not finished)

My process of creating the front and back cover for my album.

I have followed a large majority of the plan which I have created, I had to make a few minor changes towards the front and back cover for example I didn't place the text in the same order of my plan because it didn't look that great so I played around with it and I believe I have found the correct position for the artist's name and the album name.

Also for the back cover I had to blur out the background of the back cover image because it didn't have a pure black background and it looked quite odd so I had to blur a black cover around the artist and transition the colour to make it fade correctly with the image. I believe the final outcome of my front and back album cover is looking fairly good, there is still a few changes I am looking to add such as adding the artist's website on the middle panel of the album and maybe enlarging the text if needed.

Ancillary: Process of the Inside Panels of the Digipak

Using the 'LAYERS' I was able to keep track of what I was doing. I could lock the layers which I was happy with so that they don't get comprised by something else. I renamed the layers as this helped me later on if I wanted to move or change something about I could navigate quickly without any troubles.

Using the collapse tool I was able to put the artists picture inside the font. As I did not know how to do this myself I looked up on YouTube a tutorial on how to do this and taught myself to do it. And this is what I came up with.

From suggestions and it is conventional I put a small imprint In the corner of the inside panels this was to work like a signature of the artist so that the fans/audience will feel closer to him. I also stuck to my images being in black and white as I thought this would look effective with the gold and I did not want to over complicate it.

Ancillary: Process of the Outside Panels on the Digipak

Below is a screenshot of what I have started so far, sticking to my plan and colour conventions of black, white and gold.

THIS IS A UNFINISHED VERSION

after showing a few peers this, I got suggestions and improvements I could make, for example on the back panel I should do something to make the song list stand out more; therefore I am thinking to change the colours of the font. Also as my background is an off white colour it is very plain which allows me to add something more to make it looks more effective. I am thinking of putting faded writing into the background of the artist name in large.

I played around with the background and decided to change the colour and font colours of the text
and make the main song stand out as this is the song that we made a music video too
